PLEASE READ: A Crowdfunding program to help empower children in Peru

La Comunidad Que Cochildren in perunstruimos is a nonprofit organization based in Trujillo, Peru. We empower the children through an after school program in which our volunteers teach topics like music, art, and dance in exchange for lessons in Peruvian culture and customs taught by our kids, our Young Leaders. The exchange model we employ enables our volunteers to teach the Young Leaders without the damaging power dynamics of the traditional classroom model.

We see our program making a big difference in the lives of our Young Leaders. After just eight months in our program, survey measures of self-esteem are showing great improvement. But we want to do more.

We are building a Community Center. Our Young Leaders Program currently provides the children of Trujillo with a place to go four afternoons a week. With a Community Center, equipped with books and computers, homework resources and mentors our Young Leaders will have a place to go whenever they want or need.

We believe Peruvians know better than anyone else what their country needs and how to achieve those goals. The biggest and best change for Peru comes by transforming the next generation of Peruvians into change-makers who will advocate for their own people and champion real change. That’s why we’re part of the self-esteem movement. We hope you’ll join us striving for a better future by investing in its leaders, our Young Leaders.
